Farmers report on progress in winter grain sowing campaign

Farmland area processed stands at 3.86 million hectares at the moment.

In the ongoing autumn sowing campaign, Ukrainian farmers have already sown grains on 47% of the scheduled area as of October 5.

That's 3.86 million hectares, the press service of the Ministry for Development of Economy, Trade, and Agriculture.

"In particular, in the past week alone, the sowing area grew by 1.6 million hectares. In terms of varieties, wheat was sown at 2.9 million ha (47% to the target), barley – at 177,400 ha (19%), rye – at 68,900 ha (52%), rapeseed – at 721,000 ha (71%)," the report reads.

Harvest update

As of October 5, Ukrainian agricultural producers harvested almost 53 million tonnes of basic crops from​​17.1 million hectares. In particular, 40.7 million tonnes of grain and leguminous crops were harvested from about 11 million hectares (71% of the forecast).

Background

Since the start of the new marketing year (MY, July 2020 - June 2021), Ukrainian agrarians have exported 10.33 million tonnes of grain, which is 1.17 million tonnes down against the same period last year.
