The Ukrainian government has no plans for any military operations to regain control of the territories controlled by Russian-backed militants, and is searching for a political solution to this conflict, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin has said in an interview with German newspaper Rheinische Post.
"Ukraine has stopped fighting for the Ukrainian regions in the east of the country controlled by pro-Russian separatists," Klimkin said.
"Such a military operation would also affect the civilian population, our Ukrainian citizens," he told the newspaper.
"The Ukrainian government intends to observe the ceasefire and continues to seek a political solution to the conflict,” Klimkin said.
“If the separatists, supported by the Russian Federation, begin again to attack the positions of the Ukrainian soldiers, they will get a fitting rebuff by the Ukrainian army, as its fighting capacity has substantially increased recently."
"Today, thousands of Ukrainian soldiers can fight with the enemy, and they have already proven it," he added.
He also said that Ukraine would soon need more financial assistance from Western countries.
