Former Ukrainian Foreign Minister and diplomat Volodymyr Ohryzko has said that the first step the new parliament should undertake is to amend the law on the non-aligned status of Ukraine, a move that would open up prospects for Ukraine to join NATO.
"The first step for me is obvious - to amend the law, with the inclusion of a provision regarding Ukraine’s foreign policy goal to join [NATO]," he said on Ukrainian television’s Espreso.TV channel, adding that such a move would significantly change the situation, and attitude to Ukraine among states in the alliance.
"Then there will be no talk in Berlin, Brussels or Washington of Ukraine not being on the list [of prospective NATO members] - Ukraine will be on this list," Ohryzko said.
