Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko is to submit a bill to the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine’s parliament, that would cancel the non-aligned status of the country, the president said during his speech in the Polish parliament on Wednesday.
"Today, when the political balance and the stability of Europe have been destroyed, we must seek new means of ensuring our joint security," he said, according to Ukrainian online newspaper Ukrainska Pravda.
"I promise to submit a bill to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to cancel [Ukraine’s] non-aligned status," Poroshenko said.
