German Chancellor Angela Merkel has said that sanctions against Russia are inevitable because Moscow does not respect the sovereignty of Ukraine, Russian news agency RIA Novosti has reported.
"For as long as we do not achieve our goal, sanctions are inevitable, although I would like to reiterate that it is not an end in itself," Merkel said in a speech before the German parliament, the Bundestag, on Thursday.
As earlier reported, last week, Merkel said that there was still hope for a diplomatic solution to the Donbas crisis.
