President Poroshenko will address Crimean Tatars in Russian-occupied Crimea in their own language in his New Year address to the nation.
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko will address the Crimean Tatar people in the Russian-occupied territory of Crimea in their own language in his New Year address to the nation, head of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Refat Chubarov has said on his page on Facebook.
Chubarov said Ukrainians would get a pleasant surprise to know that the president can communicate in the Crimean Tatar language.
"At a time when the Vatniki (a derogatory term, in this case applied to Russians) will already be face-down in a plate of Olivier [salad], watch the New Year's address and the congratulations of President of Ukraine [Petro] Poroshenko. You will also be pleasantly surprised by the knowledge of the Ukrainian president [of] the Crimean Tatar language."
A blank space has appeared on the Web site of the president where his New Year’s address is to be posted later this evening.
