Issue of eliminating deputy immunity to be considered by Constitutional Court

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has supported a decision to submit for the consideration of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine a bill of amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine (regarding the immunity of people's deputies and judges of Ukraine, No. 1776).

As an UNIAN correspondent reported, 365 deputies out of 371 registered in the session hall voted for this decision.

The decision comes into force from the date of its adoption.

According to representative of Ukrainian President in the Ukrainian Parliament Stepan Kubiv, "the conclusions of the Venice Commission will also [be included in the Rada’s] submission to the Constitutional Court".

The presidential bill on amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine on lifting immunity of people's deputies and judges (No. 1776) was registered in the Verkhovna Rada on January 16.

The bill envisages the exclusion from the Constitution of Parts 1 and 3 of Article 80, containing provisions according to which it is determined that the MPs are guaranteed parliamentary immunity, and that they cannot be prosecuted, detained or arrested without the consent of the Verkhovna Rada.
