Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko says Ukraine and the EU will insist on an unconditional ceasefire in eastern Ukraine during Wednesday’s peace talks in Minsk.
According to an UNIAN correspondent, Poroshenko said this during an extended government meeting on Wednesday attended by the heads of regional state administrations.
"I can assure you that Ukraine and the European Union will speak with one voice at the Minsk summit,” Poroshenko said.
“The key point - we define and insist on: we need an unconditional ceasefire, without any preconditions," the president said.
According to Poroshenko, today may become the most important date in the history of Ukraine.
“Ukraine is striving for peace,” he said.
"We want peace, we want to live in Ukraine, we want the [territorial] integrity of Ukraine, we want to restore order, we want to stop the aggression, [and] we want the invading troops to leave the territory of Ukraine."
As reported earlier, President Poroshenko said he was ready to make a decision on the introduction of martial law in the country if there is an escalation of the conflict in the east of the country.
