The European Union has extended sanctions that foresee the freezing of assets of former Ukrainian officials and the return of stolen public funds to Ukraine, according to an UNIAN correspondent in Brussels.
The decision was taken under the procedure of paragraph A, i.e. without discussion, at a meeting of the EU Council on energy issues on Thursday in Brussels.
"Our measures are to freeze the assets of persons who are the subject of an initial investigation into the embezzlement of public funds, including by the former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych. The Council adjusted the sanctions, taking into account the progress of judicial review," the decision says.
The decision will be published in the Official Journal of the European Union on March 6.
As reported earlier, the decision of the EU will extend the sanctions for some individuals from the so-called Ukrainian list for one year, for some of them - until June 6. Four people from the list will be excluded.
