Development ministry to sign 50 agreements on access EU markets

Ukraine’s Ministry of Economic Development and Trade is to sign a series of 50 agreements to open up access for Ukraine to various sectors of the EU market, Trade Minister Maksym Nefedov has said during a radio broadcast on Aristocrats FM.

"It is necessary to conclude these so-called sectoral agreements, which will open the EU market to certain goods. Quite a large number of sectoral agreements have to be negotiated to gain full access to the market - about 50," Nefedov said.

According to him, the Economic Development Ministry is planning to conclude several such agreements by the end of the current year.

As reported earlier, by 2017 Ukraine must approve 180 acts of EU legislation for the implementation of a free trade zone, as stipulated by Ukraine’s Association Agreement with the EU.

The Association Agreement with the EU was signed in 2014: the political part in March, and the economic part in June. The agreement was signed in the wake of the Ukrainian Revolution of Dignity, which began in December 2013, after then Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych refused to sign the agreement at a summit in Vilnius (Lithuania).

The Association Agreement became the basis of the coalition agreement signed by the majority of factions in the Ukrainian parliament, as well as the government's agenda, as presented and approved in December 2014.
