The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) is not providing Ukraine with weapons, but at the same time it is expected to strengthen cooperation in order to improve Ukraine’s security and enhance the combat capability of its armed forces, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin told journalists on Wednesday at a meeting of NATO foreign ministers in the Turkish city of Antalya, according to an UNIAN correspondent.
According to Klimkin, a joint statement will be made on the results of today's meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Commission.
"NATO as an alliance doesn’t provide Ukraine with weapons. We are working within the framework of the five trust funds, and we hope to continue this practice, to establish new funds, which will bring the Ukrainian armed forces and the security sector as a whole up to NATO standards," Klimkin said.
Klimkin also said that the participants of the meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Commission would discuss the issue of how the alliance would practically help Ukraine.
"The statement will be made in such a way as to focus on the issues of the political support and practical assistance of the alliance," he said.
As UNIAN reported earlier, Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu said that Ukraine would need more support in the field of security.
