U.S. Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter has assured Ukrainian Defense Minister Stepan Poltorak that the United States will provide further support to Ukraine in the stabilization of the situation in the Donbas.
According to the Web site of the Ministry of Defense, Poltorak met with Carter at NATO headquarters in Brussels on Thursday.
During their meeting, the parties discussed practical issues of the resolution of the crisis in Ukraine, the deepening of bilateral cooperation, and identified areas for practical cooperation in the near future.
"The United States have assured us of further support for Ukraine to stabilize the situation in the east of the country and overcome the crisis as soon as possible,” Poltorak said, according to a report from the Ukrainian Defense Ministry.
“[The United States] will also provide practical assistance to the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine in the implementation of systemic reforms and development of the defense capabilities of its armed forces," the report says.
