Ukraine Today sits with the activist of Crimea field mission on human rights, Tetiana Pechonchyk, to get an insight on the situation with civic, political and human right violations by Russian authorities in annexed Crimea.
"Just having Ukrainian symbols like a flag or like a vyshyvanka (embroidered shirt) is regarded as extremism by Russian authorities in Crimea. And such people can be detained just for showing their national identity", says the activist, describing obvious deterioration of situation with human rights on the peninsula, Ukraine Today reports.
According to the activist, the presence of international organisations like UN, OSCE, or the Council of Europe can contribute to battling the problem of human rights violations and provide for the safety of local activists.
