Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko had a phone conversation with U.S. Vice President Joseph Biden on Thursday evening to inform about escalation in Donbas and a renewal of attacks with the use of Grad multiple rocket launch systems (MRLS), according to the presidential press service.
"The president has informed [Biden] about the deterioration of the situation in Donbas, particularly the intensification of shelling, the use of MRLS by Russian-controlled militants and their increased activity in the area of Maryinka," the press service said.
Vice President Biden in turn condemned the worsening of the security situation and assured of Washington's permanent position of support of Ukraine's territorial integrity.
The sides also touched on the adoption of visa-free laws by the Ukrainian parliament on Thursday and agreed that it was important to continue reforms in Ukraine in the context of cooperation with the International Monetary Fund and other international financial institutions.
