Tatar Mejlis hearing branded ‘kangaroo court' begins in Russian-occupied Crimea

In the Russian-occupied Crimean peninsula a court case is being heard into a ban on the Crimean Tatar Mejlis while the peninsula's so-called prosecutor says it should be labeled as “extremist” and shut down, Ukraine Today reported.

Head of the Mejlis Refat Chubarov says the proceedings a sham and is calling on the UN to intervene, according to Ukraine Today.

The indigenous population of the Black Sea peninsula has been subject to repressions, disappearances and imprisonment since Moscow's internationally unrecognized annexation two years ago in March, 2014.
