EU's visa waiver suspension mechanism not ready: journalist

The European Parliament and the EU Council cannot agree on a visa waiver suspension mechanism, which is called a prerequisite for EU-Ukraine visa liberalization, according to Rikard Jozwiak, a Brussels-based reporter for Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.

"At the moment it doesn't look like there'll be a deal between EP and Council on suspension mechanism when they meet in early November," he tweeted.

As reported earlier, on April 20, the European Commission proposed the European Parliament and Council of Europe to lift visas for Ukrainian citizens. This proposal came as a result of the positive assessment by the European Commission in December last year of Ukraine's successfully fulfillment of all criteria under the Visa Liberalization Action Plan.
