Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson on Friday, January 26, discussed further steps in the swap of Ukrainian detainees in Donbas and the release of Ukrainian political prisoners from Russian prisons.

In addition, the president said he had agreed with the U.S. Secretary of State on joint coordination of security activities.
He also mentioned a meeting between United States Special Representative for Ukraine Negotiations Kurt Volker and Russian presidential aide Vladislav Surkov, which was taking place in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, the same day. "We undoubtedly insist that talks on the release of the remaining hostages [in Donbas] and [Ukrainian] political prisoners in Russia continue," Poroshenko added.
Deputy Minister for Temporary Occupied Territories and Internally Displaced Persons George Tuka earlier announced a new round of the exchange of detainees to be held in February-March 2018.
