Yulia Tymoshenko’s defense lawyers say the ex-premier should be released from custody, according to the Official web site of Yulia Tymoshenko.
“During this two-week break, not just the defense team, but the international community, everyone interested in this case, realized that there are no grounds to suggest that Yulia Tymoshenko’s actions constituted a criminal offense. The case needs to be closed and Yulia Tymoshenko should be released from custody,” lawyer Yuriy Sukhov told journalists before the start of today’s proceedings.
The lawyer stressed that today the Pechersk District Court of Kyiv should reopen the judicial inquiry and then consider the defense’s request to change the restrictive measure for Yulia Tymoshenko.
In turn, lawyer Serhiy Vlasenko said that the next step in the case fully depends on the will of the president of Ukraine. “Viktor Yanukovych’s decision will be apparent in an hour or two, and it will be clear whether Ukraine will follow a European and civilized path of development or will remain in the state of ‘democracy’ it has been until now,” he explained.
