OSCE said they strengthened Ukraine`s democratic course.
The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe on Monday declared Ukraine`s parliamentary elections "free and fair" and said they had strengthened the ex-Soviet nation`s democratic course, according to AP.
Sunday`s elections "further consolidated the breakthrough in the conduct of a democratic election process," the OSCE said in a statement.
The trans-Atlantic security organization deployed over 900 observers, including 200 members of parliaments, from 45 countries to observe the elections.
"These elections can only be described as free and fair, and so it is the Ukrainian people who are the real winners," said OSCE Parliament Assembly President Alcee Hastings, a Democratic member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Florida.
The campaign was competitive and was covered comprehensively by the news media, enabling parties and blocs to communicate their messages to the voters, the OSCE said. The election was administered in a transparent manner and the presence of a large number of both partisan and nonpartisan observers further enhanced the transparency, it added in the statement.
