Last week, official awards ceremony of the 2nd National Competition of Business and Social "Green" Projects was held within the walls of Kyiv Planetarium, where the best green projects for 2012 were recognized by Green Awards Ukraine, according to KW.
Green Awards Ukraine named winners in 12 categories covering all areas of business and social life. Overall, 90 projects participated in the competition, which is 25% more than last year.
Yulia Berezovska, a co-founder of Green Awards Ukraine, shared her thoughts with Kyiv Weekly about this year's competition and achievements in the field of green technologies promotion in Ukraine.
Ms Berezovska said she was pleased to see a growth in the quality level and number of projects submitted to Green Awards Ukraine 2012 compared with last year. “Implementation of green technologies and realization of green projects aside, interest in such things is happening in all sphere of business life. At the same time, most of the initiatives are being implemented solely on the back of the enthusiasm and beliefs of their founders,” she said. “We can state that we are seeing the beginnings of social entrepreneurship development in Ukraine. We, for our part, sincerely hope that Green Awards Ukraine will increase its rate of development.”
Among the winners were LLC Fuhrlaender Windtechnology, the first Ukrainian company to specialize in the production, erection and service maintenance of multi-megawatt class Wind Power Plants (Best project in the field of renewable energy category); thermo-modernization of housing by Danfoss Ltd (best project in the field of energy efficiency; winner); and the best green project in industry was awarded to Obolon Brewery for recycling of own PET containers.
