Russian-backed militants have shelled Avdiivka, destroying residential buildings, schools and other social facilities, head of the Interior Ministry in Donetsk region Viacheslav Abroskin wrote on Facebook on Wednesday.
"There is a massive shelling of the city by insurgents,” Abroskin wrote.
“The residential area at Svoboda Street and several social facilities have been destroyed, and a missile hit the sports hall of school No. 3," he said.
"Since yesterday lessons in schools in Avdiivka have been suspended.
"Details will be given on the results of examinations of places that were subjected to shelling," Abroskin added.
