Additional checkpoints will be built in Kharkiv region, the chairman of Kharkiv Regional State Administration, Ihor Baluta, said on Thursday while visiting the site of future checkpoints in Zolochyvskiy and Derhachyvskiy districts.
"There has long been a need for additional checkpoints,” Baluta said during the visit, which he made with Kharkiv Border Guards and police officers.
“We’ll make sure they have two functions - to inspect transport and to fight against subversive groups," he said.
"When we strengthened the checkpoints in the fight against smuggling six months ago, the checkpoints proved to be effective in this regard.
"The checkpoints established in the northern sector of the defenses of Kharkiv region are also performing the function of fortifications.”
