The leaders of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic are considering the possibility of introducing ration cards in Donetsk due to food shortages, head of the Information Resistance group Dmytro Tymchuk wrote on his Facebook page on Friday.
"A number of officials from the DPR believe that this is the only way out of this situation," Tymchuk said.
The Ukrainian government has restricted transport over the demarcation line between the warring sides in the Donbas by introducing a permit regime. This has disrupted not only regular supplies of foodstuffs from government-held territories, but supplies of vital medicines as well.
