The safety situation on the roads in Ukraine is unacceptable and the leadership of the Interior Ministry and the Ministry of Infrastructure should immediately take all actions necessary to improve it, Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk said on Monday during a meeting of the Government Commission for Emergency Situations.
"I looked at the statistics – road deaths increased by 22% in 2014. This is unacceptable," Yatseniuk said.
According to Yatseniuk, the Ukrainian government must do everything possible so that Ukraine never sees a repeat of the kind of tragedy that happened on Monday in Poltava region.
"Today there was a terrible tragedy on the highway in the Poltava region. Seven people were killed and nine seriously injured in a car accident, when the truck collided with a passenger bus. Both vehicles had no appropriate technical documentation and were converted without permits," Yatseniuk said.
