Ukrainian Mariya Muzychuk wins Women's World Chess Championship (Video)

A 22-year-old Ukrainian from Lviv region, Mariya Muzychuk, has become the new Women’s Chess World Champion, defeating her Russian opponent Nataliya Pogonina by a score of 2:1, despite the higher ranking of the latter.

The young Ukrainian champion assumed the highest title of Grandmaster, also winning a $60,000 prize for her spectacular victory in the Russian town of Sochi on Sunday, Ukraine Today reports.

Muzychuk is to defend her world title in October.
