Symonenko claimed to the press that he testified as witness in a criminal case, although he did not elaborate on the specifics of the investigation, Ukraine Today reports.

Earlier, Symonenko was publicly accused by Ukrainian MPs of being a Russian Communist Party assembly member, while Ukraine's Justice Ministry called for an investigation into Symonenko's possible involvement in financing terrorism, support for militants and recognizing Russia’s annexation of Crimea.

For the first time ever, Ukraine’s Communist Party has no representation in the Verkhovna Rada, having failed to overcome the 5% vote share threshold to qualify for seats. The party may be banned throughout the country in future.
