Ukraine's population decreases by almost 17,000 in last month

The population of Ukraine in February dropped by 16,700 people to 42,895,704 people as of March 1, 2015, according to data from Ukrainian State Statistics Service.

The data exclude numbers from the Russian-annexed Ukrainian territory of Crimea, while the service said data on Donetsk and Luhansk regions may be revised.

According to the State Statistics Service, the most populous part of the country is Dnipropetrovsk region, with a population of 3.3 million, while the least populous is Chernivtsi region, which has a population of 909,600 people.

The capital city Kyiv has a population of 2.9 million people, according to the State Statistics Service.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the population of Ukraine has decreased by 18,000 people since the beginning of the year, and amounted to 42,910,000 people as of February 1, 2015, which was 146,400 fewer people on a year-over-year basis.

According to the United Nations forecast, by 2030 the population of Ukraine may decline to 39 million people if the current rate of population decline continues.
