Crimean Tatars mark Ramadan under Russian occupation (Video)

The Crimean Tatars, the indigenous Muslim minority living on the Russia-annexed Ukrainian territory of Crimea, see Ramadan as an opportunity for the community to unite amid growing anxiety caused by persecution by the occupation authorities of local Muslim activists who defied last year’s sham referendum on joining the territory to Russia.

With Crimean Tatar leaders banned from entering their homeland, and the only Crimean Tatar TV channel shut down, the people fear that their fate lies largely in the hands of the Kremlin as the international efforts to return Crimea to Ukraine’s control seem to be fading away, Ukraine Today reports.
