Smoke bombs and stones: protesters storm Rada, police trying to push them back

A scuffle between the protesters and law enforcement officers began near the building of the Verkhovna Rada after MPs had approved the president-proposed Constitutional amendments regarding decentralization of power, according to an UNIAN correspondent.

The fighting involved the most active protesters with flags of the Svoboda party in their hands. Law enforcement officers with shields were guarding the building of the Verkhovna Radaaround the perimeter.

Some protesters were seen beating law enforcers with large wooden sticks, and using tear gas. Law enforcement officers were protecting themselves with shields and used tear gas in response.

The exits from Parliament building were blocked.

In addition, the protesters lit a smoke bomb near the parliament building.

The police pushed the protesters back from the building of the Verkhovna Rada.

Later, it was reported that the fighting near the Verkhovna Rada ceased but the some participants continued with a peaceful protest against amendments to the Constitution.

As of now, the protesters are demanding the resignation of Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, calling on Ukrainian citizens not to put up with the actions of the authorities and go to protests.
