More and more militant fighters are defecting, under a special program launched by Ukraine's Security Service several months ago. Under the scheme, those surrendering are carefully questioned - to ensure no crimes were committed before the war, Ukraine Today reports.
Comparing the given answers with existing intelligence, officials make a judgment call, according to Ukraine Today.
A security service official said that family ties led to some militants abandoning their positions, as their relatives would stay behind in the government-controlled areas.
The official also argued more fighters want to defect but unfortunetly, don't have the necessary means.
