It is one of 12 the biggest Christian holidays. In Ukraine it is called Yabluchny [Apple] Spas.

On August 19, Ukrainians traditionally sanctify apples and other fruits of the new harvest.

According to the Bible, on this day the change in the appearance of Christ took place before three disciples (Matthew 17:1-9).
