Ukraine`s 10-month trade gap for goods doubled compared to the same period last year to $16.07 billion from $8.19 billion, the State Statistics Committee said on Monday, Interactive Investor reported.

Data showed Ukraine had exported $59.424 billion, an increase of 48.4 percent, and imported $75.493 billion, a rise of 56.5 percent.

The trade gap has been widening quickly due to yearly steep gas import price rises since 2005. The deficit has widened the current account and in recent months depressed the hryvnia to historic lows against the dollar.

The hryvnia was trading at a fresh all-time low of 8.14-8.255 to the dollar after losing over 70 percent of its value since September.

Russia has suggested it may more than double the price of its gas for Ukraine to $400 per 1,000 cubic metres from $179.50 now.
