Ukrainian children will study for 12 years at school, starting from the 2018 academic year, according to the law on education adopted in September 2017.
The document provides for splitting secondary education into three levels: four-year primary education, five-year basic secondary education, and three-year specialized secondary education.

Another innovation is a final state examination at the end of each stage of education, which can take place, in particular, in the form of external independent testing.
The 12-year system of education will start working from September 1, 2018, for primary education, from September 1, 2022, for basic secondary education, and from September 1, 2027, for specialized secondary education.
