Prime Minister of Ukraine Victor Yanukovych forecasts that the inflation in 2007 will not exceed 8.5%.

According to the government’s press-office, this forecast was made by the Prime Minister today at a meeting with war veterans.

“During the last years, every year there was 10-11% [of inflation - UNIAN]. We believe that this year it will not be more than 8.5%”, the Prime Minister said.

The main risk that may cause inflation processes is the rise in salaries and pensions, scheduled for the second quarter of 2007. “We are getting ready to this, but we know from practice that it will be impossible to completely restrict the inflation considering this process. So, after social payments are boosted, the inflation will also somewhat grow”, he said.

At the same time, Victor Yanukovych stressed that the directions, which were the main inflation-making factors during last years, are not risky this year. “We are keeping the oil and gas prices, and the electrical energy prices, I think, we will also keep”, the Prime Minister noted.
