Sixteen people were killed early Sunday after a fire engulfed a retirement home in western Ukraine, officials said, according to Xinhua.
Eleven others were also hospitalized, including two of the staff members at the wooden structure in a village of the Rovno region, according to a statement from the Emergencies Ministry.
Those 11 people were being treated for toxic poisoning and three of them were in critical conditions.
The fire was put out hours after it broke out. The incident was caused by mishandling of fire, the ministry said, without giving details.
