There was relative calm in the Donbas conflict zone overnight, following an evening of active shelling by Russian-backed militants, the press center of the Ukrainian government’s Anti-Terrorist Operation reported on Tuesday.
"Starting from 2100, the militants fired small arms on [Ukrainian] positions, provocatively and chaotically. Not far from Donetsk, the militants fired twice on our fortified position near the mine of Dutovskaya. They also attacked the villages of Myronivskiy and Maiorsk near Artemivsk," the report says.
Russian-backed militants also fired mortars on Avdiivka at night, the press center said.
In total, during the night, starting from 2100 on March 2 and until 0500 on March 3, the militants violated the ceasefire six times.
At the same time, on the evening of March 2, there was an intensification of the enemy’s military actions.
"In the area of Donetsk, at about 1900, the militants fired mortars on the village of Pisky. At 2010 they fired multiple rocket launcher systems and at 2030 they directed tank fire on Avdiivka. At 2020 they fired grenade launchers on the village of Opytne. And at about 2000 near the village of Sokolnyky in Luhansk region there was a fire fight between our troops and the militants," the report reads.
