Violating the Minsk agreements, pro-Russian militants have shelled Ukrainian troops in the anti-terrorist operation (ATO) zone in eastern Ukraine, using artillery systems, mortars and grenade launchers, and small arms. Shelling was registered in the Donetsk, Artemivsk, Luhansk and Mariupol sectors.
Two Ukrainian soldiers were killed and seven were wounded in the past 24 hours, ATO press secretary Andriy Lysenko said at a briefing in Kyiv.
"Ignoring the Minsk agreements, militants have used artillery systems, mortars and grenade launchers, and small arms to shell units of the ATO forces in the Donetsk, Artemivsk, Luhansk and Mariupol sectors," he said.
According to Lysenko, the situation outside Donetsk remains difficult, as was the case in previous days.
"Two military clashes between Russian mercenaries and Ukrainian servicemen have taken place near the village of Opytne in Yasynuvata district, Donetsk region. Our soldiers have bravely defended themselves and successfully repelled all attacks by the enemy," Lysenko said.
