OSCE not able to verify withdrawal

The OSCE Special Monitoring Mission (SMM) to Ukraine registered the movement of heavy weapons of the militants from the contact line in the zone of the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO) in eastern Ukraine, although the experts cannot not classify this as withdrawal, Deputy Chief Monitor of the OSCE SMM to Ukraine Alexander Hug told Russian news agency RIA Novosti on Monday.

"The OSCE yesterday didn’t witness a withdrawal, the mission observed a movement of tanks and other heavy weapons from the DNR and the LNR. This is important because we don’t know where these weapons went," Hug said noting that it was not considered a withdrawal.

Hug insisted that the OSCE SMM be told where exactly those weapons were moved and where they were being stored. He also stresses that the rules under which the equipment was moved remain unclear.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Denys Pushylin, envoy of the so-called Donetsk People's Republic to the Minsk Contact Group, announced reaching a compromise with Ukraine on the issue of withdrawal of weapons of up to 100 mm caliber from the contact line in the ATO zone.
