OSCE envoy Sajdik visits occupied Donbas, meets Catholic communities

The Special Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office in Ukraine and in the Trilateral Contact Group (TCG), Ambassador Martin Sajdik, visited the so-called certain areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions on June 10 -13, 2017.

"Amb. Sajdik accepted the invitation by the Apostolic Nuncio in Ukraine ‎to visit the Catholic communities in Donetsk and Luhansk, together with the Auxiliary Bishop of the Kharkiv-Zaporyzhzhia Diocese," the OSCE said in a press release.

Read alsoRussian proxies attempt to down OSCE drone in DonbasAnother aim of Sajdik's visit was to obtain a first-hand insight into the social and economic consequences of measures introduced earlier this year by both sides, namely a halt to cargo transports across the contact line of contact and "external management" for companies under Ukrainian jurisdiction in the occupied areas in Donbas, as well as irregular water supplies.

Sajdik was accompanied by the Coordinator of the TCG Working Group on Economic Issues and Rehabilitation, Per Fischer.

The OSCE SMM, notably the Luhansk and Donetsk Monitoring Teams, facilitated Sajdik's‎ visit and provided him with comprehensive information on current security challenges, the OSCE said.
