Russia's hybrid military forces attacked Ukrainian army positions in Donbas 19 times on Tuesday, October 17, with one Ukrainian soldier reported as killed in action (KIA), according to the press service of the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO) Headquarters.
"Today, the situation in the ATO area remained tense. The enemy was most active in the Donetsk sector, like several previous days in a row," the ATO HQ posted on Facebook.
Since the early hours of Tuesday morning, the militants have opened fire four times from grenade launchers, heavy machine guns and small arms on the defenders of the town of Avdiyivka. The Ukrainian military fired back to suppress the enemy's activity, using all types of infantry weapons.
Moreover, the ATO strongholds outside the village of Zaitseve came under enemy fire twice.
The Russian-backed mercenaries launched seventeen 120mm mortar rounds near the said village at about 15:00 Kyiv time.

In the Mariupol sector, the Ukrainian positions came under fire near the villages of Vodiane, Shyrokyne, and Talakivka.
"The Ukrainian forces returned fire almost during all the enemy attacks, using weapons not banned by Minsk agreements," the ATO HQ said in a statement.
As reported, one Ukrainian soldier was killed in action near the town of Maryinka.
