The pair of Mistral helicopter carrier assault ships, which Russia ordered from French shipbuilders at a cost of over a billion euros, no longer fit with Russia’s military doctrine, a Russian official has said.
"Basically, the Mistral, as landing craft, does not comply very much with our defense doctrine," Deputy Chairman of the Russian Military-Industrial Complex Board Yuriy Mikhailov told radio station Echo of Moscow, Russian news agency Tass reported.
Mikhailov did not say what kind of weapons Russia now required for its military doctrine
Mikhailov added that Russia "will survive without the Mistrals.”
