Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko joined dozens of other foreign dignitaries in Paris on Sunday to lead a march of unity against terrorism through the French capital.
Hundreds of thousands of people, and perhaps up to a million, flocked to the Place de la Republique to march two miles to the Place de la Nation. The route of the march passes close to the office of the satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo, where on Wednesday two Islamist gunmen murdered 12 people, including four of France’s foremost cartoonists.
A total of 17 people, including 3 Islamist gunmen have died in France since Wednesday in a string of attacks and incidents, including two simultaneous hostage-takings on Friday.
The procession, which was scheduled to begin at 1600 Kyiv time, was led by the families of the victims and the leaders of Ukraine, France, Germany, Britain, Israel, Spain, Poland, Belgium, and many others.
The heads of the European Union, NATO and the Council of Europe are also at the head of the march.
