The Organization for Islamic Cooperation (OIC) said on Sunday it was "following up with profound concern" the escalating situation of Syrian refugees, who had fled the civil war raging in their country, the organization said in a statement, according to Jordan news agency Petra.
The statement was issued at the end of an emergency meeting held at the pan-Islamic organization’s headquarters in the Saudi Arabian city of Jeddah as the flow of Syrian refugees into Europe continued unabated, the report says.
In his address to the 57-member OIC, Secretary General Iyad Madani referred to "the dangerous situation in Syria and the inhumane conditions the Syrian refugees had been living in."
OIC members Jordan, Turkey and Lebanon host about 4 million Syrian refugees.
