The United Nations Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura said on Monday it was urgent for Russia and the United States to reach an understanding to avert a military escalation that could effectively dismember the country, Ukraine Today reported.
"First, understanding between Russia and the US, which I think is urgent, and then move clearly into the regional context because without, and we learnt in Geneva II, without regional involvement in discussions, not only in the conflict, there will not be an end to the conflict,” said the diplomat, according to Ukraine Today.
