Ukrainian Health Minister Maksym Stepanov says public transportation and economic sectors may resume operations after the country's regions meet the relevant criteria for the COVID-19 incidence rate and the load on the health care system.

"The Health Ministry has proposed that we switch to adaptive quarantine, which will vary depending on region. The transition assumes that each stage meets certain criteria, including incidence rate, the number of patients in hospitals, the workload on the health care system, and the number of tests done," he told an online briefing on May 15.

The ministry will provide for certain mitigations depending on the observance of the established criteria.

"They [criteria] correspond to a certain stage, and there will be some kind of mitigation at each stage. We have developed four phases of [the coronavirus] quarantine exit plan. Each stage envisages mitigation, including the resumption of public transportation. The Health Ministry's position is the following: if you meet the criteria, appropriate mitigation and launch of certain industries is possible," Stepanov added.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukraine's Cabinet of Ministers in March introduced a nationwide quarantine to counter the spread of coronavirus infection, after which the lockdown regime was extended until May 11.

On May 4, the government further extended the lockdown until May 22, having lifted some quarantine-related curbs from May 11.

In particular, hair, nail, beauty salons, dentists, lawyers, offices of notaries, auditors, psychologists were allowed to reopen.
