Almost half of surveyed Ukrainians expect economic slide

Two-thirds of Ukrainians note a worsening economic situation over the past six months.

Almost half of Ukrainians polled believe the economic situation in the country will be worsening, that's according to a survey conducted by Rating Sociological Group on June 24-28.

About 40% of respondents expect the country's economic situation to worsen within the next six months, 31% expect no change, while 17% hope for improvement.

According to the survey, more than half of Ukrainians (53%) believe that the economic crisis this fall may occur due to the incompetence of the incumbent authorities, 32% are sure that the coronavirus may be the cause, while another 6% believe that the escalation in Donbas could stir crisis.

Also, 22% of respondents assess the direction in which the government is steering the country as correct, 63% - as incorrect, while another 15% found the question difficult to answer.

Sociologists note that over the past month there has been a drop in positive assessments of the general state of affairs in the country from 32 to 22%.

"Two-thirds of respondents noted a deterioration in the economic situation of Ukraine over the past six months, almost a quarter believe that it hasn't changed, 9% - that it has have improved. Half of the respondents spoke of the worsening of the economic situation of their households, almost 40% said there were no changes, while 9% saw improvements," the study says.

The survey was conducted via personal formalized face-to-face interviews among the population of Ukraine aged 18 years and older in all regions but the temporarily occupied territories of Crimea and Donbas.
