Ukraine sees 9% rise in new housing in 2017

Some 125,610 new apartments were commissioned last year.

Commissioning of new housing in Ukraine rose by 9% in 2017 from 2016, to 10.206 million square meters.

Over the past year, 7.274 million square meters of housing was commissioned in cities and towns, while 2.932 million square meters of housing was put into operation in rural areas. Some 41.5% of total housing was commissioned as single-family houses, the share of houses with two or more apartments was 58.1%, while public housing accounted for 0.4%, Ukraine's State Statistics Service said.

In particular, 1,733 square meters (17% of total housing) was put into operation in Kyiv, while 1,825 square meters (17.9%) was commissioned in Kyiv region.

In total, 125,610 apartments were commissioned last year, including 98,477 apartments in cities and towns and 27,133 in rural areas. Their average area was 71.3 square meters and 105.3 square meters, respectively.

The highest growth rates in 2017 were recorded in Luhansk region (a threefold increase, to 21,200 square meters) and in Ternopil region (an increase by 1.7 times, to 235,100 square meters).

The State Statistics Service said the data excluded reports from temporarily occupied areas in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, the city of Sevastopol, and Donbas.

As UNIAN reported earlier, commissioning of new housing in Ukraine fell by 15.2% in 2016 from 2015, to 9.367 million square meters.
