Poland says Ukrainian workers transfer about $3.84 bln home in 2017

The Polish National Bank forecasts 200,000-300,000 Ukrainians will annually come to Poland to work in that country.

Polish Deputy Foreign Minister Bartosz Cichocki has said the amount of money transfers by Ukrainian citizens from Poland to Ukraine grew by almost one and a half times in 2017, to PLN 13 billion, or about UAH 100 billion (or about $3.84 billion).

"If Ukrainian workers transferred PLN 8 billion home in 2016, the latest data from our central bank shows that some PLN 13 billion was transferred in 2017, which is about UAH 100 billion," he said at the 11th Europe-Ukraine Forum in Rzeszow, Poland, according to the Ukrainian news outlet Europeiska Pravda.

"Of course, this is not charity – this is the money earned by these people, but Poland has given them this opportunity to earn the money," the diplomat added.

As reported, the National Bank of Poland forecasts 200,000-300,000 Ukrainians will annually come to Poland until the end of 2020 to work in that country.

The National Bank of Ukraine also predicts that labor migration from Ukraine will continue to grow for another two or three years, but will begin to decline in the medium term.
