Ukraine, Qatar sign visa-free deal, number of agreements on economic, trade cooperation, investment promotion

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko on Tuesday is on an official visit to Qatar where he has already held negotiations with Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

According to Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin, during the visit, an agreement was signed greenlighting visa-free travel. 

There is an ongoing "breakthrough in the Gulf and beyond", Klimkin wrote on Twitter.

Several other documents were signed following the talks of the two leaders on economic, trade cooperation and investment promotion.

Among those is the agreement between governments on the avoidance of double taxation and prevention of tax evasion in relation to income taxes, according to the presidential administration.

The signing of the agreement is believed to facilitate intensified trade and economic cooperation between Ukraine and the State of Qatar: avoiding double taxation, preventing tax evasion and ensuring mutual reduction of tax obstacles for foreign investments and trade.

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv and the Qatar University to facilitate practical cooperation between the leading educational institutions of the two countries.

In the course of the official visit, the president also took part in the opening of the Qatar International Agricultural Exhibition-2018.
