Ukraine not blacklisted after MONEYVAL checks – NBU

Ukraine is not on a blacklist of countries laundering money and financing terrorism, which was proven by MONEYVAL international experts, while certain European countries are facing inclusion in the sanctions lists.

"If, after the first and second rounds of the checks, Ukraine was facing inclusion in such lists, now it is out of the question," Director of the Financial Monitoring Department of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) Ihor Bereza told journalists.

In his words, the audit covered all sectors of the economy and all government structures, and the international experts particularly stressed the efforts of the Ukrainian banking sector in the fight against money laundering.

The Committee of Experts on the Evaluation of Anti-Money Laundering Measures and the Financing of Terrorism, or MONEYVAL, is a permanent monitoring body of the Council of Europe entrusted with the task of assessing compliance with the principal international standards to counter money laundering and the financing of terrorism and the effectiveness of their implementation, as well as with the task of making recommendations to national authorities in respect of necessary improvements to their systems. Ukraine joined it in 1997.
